Follow The Yellow Brick Road...

Seeing as this in my first blog post, I will give you a little background on how I came to the out of the ordinary decision to become a surrogate. Growing up, my mom’s friend Alex was a surrogate and I thought of what a wonderful thing she is doing for another couple. It was not until the last few years when I saw the struggle and pain and devastation that infertility spewed over many of my friends and family. The internal struggle, pain and disappointment I saw in their eyes every time they miscarried or another year went by with nothing but negative pregnancy tests broke my heart. I have been blessed with this super fertile body (even an IUD couldn’t stop my power house eggs from fertilizing!) amazing pregnancies and fast, easy natural births. I have all this, so why not put it to good use to help a family and give them the most amazing gift; the undying, unconditional love for a child. I feel like growing up seeing surrogacy and the magic of it all coupled with my baby factory of a body make me the perfect candidate. So in November of 2012 my boyfriend and I tossed the idea around. At first we both had to really sit back and think realistically about. I am putting my body on line, I am going to be sick and exhausted, swollen, I’m going to gain weight, and then the biggest question of all, can I hand over a baby I spent the better half of a year preparing and growing to a couple that I may never see again? (we will save that for another blog post) The hunnie and I decided we would take our time, research, research and research some more. We gathered all the information, technical, legal and emotional (thanks to all the surrogate blogs out there for the emotional view!)

Fast forward to January, we knew that this was something that we not only wanted to do but something we had to do. So we went though a well known surrogacy company and filled out all the paperwork. Things moved along pretty fast. The surrogate coordinator was pleased to inform me that there is a very high demand for surrogates right now, especially in California and that I will probably get “snatched Up” pretty fast. Sure enough, two days after putting my profile out there to view, a couple of IP’s (Intended Parents) snatched me up!

This morning was the first phone call with the IP’s. For the sake of privacy we will call the I.P-mom (T) and the I.P-dad (S) I was so nervous, I felt sick to my stomach! It was just a phone call, but I thought I was going to jump out of my skin! But alas, the conversation was great! I absolutely love them! There is no doubt in my mind the this next year will be a great one! They are so supportive and so thankful. I.P-mom (T) and I have a lot of the same values and hopes for the future regarding the baby (or babies) I will be growing for them. They live about 6 hours away but we are planning to meet in person in the next few weeks. I am really looking forward to meeting them and embarking on this amazing journey together!
